The NorthStar Youth Hockey League (formally the American Youth Hockey League) was formed back in the late 1970’s to offer local area youth hockey players the opportunity to play in competitive league that’s conveniently located close to home.
The league typically spans 28 weeks from September through March with playoffs to follow. League games are typically played over the weekends but the league does utilize many of the school vacation weeks and holidays to schedule games. The 2014-15 regular season will offer a 28 game regular season schedule. All teams will qualify for playoffs which is a double elimination format (2 game minimum).
The league holds two parity round adjustments (October & November) to determine appropriate team placement to ensure competitive balance within each age division. Each program’s league director will have input on final placement.
Current Member Programs participating in the NYHL include:
Starhawks Youth Hockey, Shrewsbury Youth Hockey, Demons Youth Hockey, Triboro Youth Hockey, Junior Crusaders Youth Hockey, North Central Massachusetts Youth Hockey, Assabet Valley Girls Hockey, Framingham Youth Hockey, SMS Youth Hockey and Worcester Junior Sharks Hockey.
The league plays out of NorthStar Ice Sports (formally known as NorthStar Youth Forum) which is owned and operated by the by the Northborough Youth Hockey Program, Inc. (NYHP). NYHP is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The NYHP strives to promote the sport of hockey as its one of many objectives and purposes.
